0.2 - What This Course is About
This is a short section to put you in the right mindset. This course is about giving you all the techniques, tools, and tricks to put all your chances of landing the first dream job in your favor. Getting a career in the media industry is competitive; this is all about utilizing unfair advantages to land that job.
In order to apply all of that, I did my absolute best to put all these tricks and bits of knowledge into a framework that has been battle tested for over five years in many different companies, for many unique jobs in the industry, and that works IF AND ONLY IF YOU DO THE WORK!
Knowing is half the battle. The first thing to establish is a clear understanding of the industry, how it works, what it wants, and how to display exactly what they want to see in your portfolio. This is like when you are playing a game - if you really want to win and stomp your enemies, you learn the meta and play according to it. We will learn the meta of the hiring process in the industry.
The rest of the battle is also about knowing how to strike precisely and efficiently. This is why you need to have a strong vision of where you want to go and then establish a plan on how to get there as efficiently as possible.
Finally, in order to match the industry's expectations, you will have to become as objective as possible on yourself, what you know, what you don't, and what you need to improve on if you want to become the perfect candidate for the industry and for your dream job.
Now, even though these false beliefs have been dismantled before you see the course, let's review what this course is not.
This is not a pay-to-win option to get a job while doing nothing. I'm not the one giving you a job; you are the one working the hardest to get the first job you want, and I'm just here to guide you and make sure your path is the most efficient one. But if you do not do the work, nothing will change.
This course is not about teaching you some art techniques or software. The following lessons are software and tool agnostic. I'm an efficiency maximalist, so if the software that allows me to do a specific task the fastest and easiest is Software X, I'll use it over Software Y.
The technique you use is only half of your ability to get a job. You can have a wildly efficient approach already, but if your portfolio is not curated with a specific company in mind, you won't get hired. This is something that often drives students mad because they focus so hard on learning tools and techniques at school that they think it's the only thing that matters to get a job. I'm afraid that's not right, and you will soon discover why it's only half of your professional skill set.
This is not about telling you that you are perfect and that it's not your fault if you don't find a job. No hard feelings. I'm not a fan of hustle culture, but if you are here in my course, this is because you haven't seen desirable results. There is only one thing you can control. It's not your concurrence, the hundreds of other artists competing with you for the job, or the company's expectations. The only thing you can control to optimize your chances is you. And guess what? If you don't have the results you want, you need to change some things about yourself and your way of doing things.
I really do hope there won't be any hard feelings; again, I'm not a sadistic person, and I take no pleasure in making people feel bad. But sometimes, even though it's hard, we must admit that we are not perfect and might screw up. And this is fine. This is the first step towards becoming the best you can be.
Similarly, don't expect me to let you avoid your fears and stay in your comfort zone. If you don't have the results that you want, it means that you need to step outside of your comfort zone. Expand it because, for now, it does not cover the industry's expectations.
And finally, even though this course delivers a ton of little nuggets of knowledge, knowledge alone is just knowledge. It only has power if you apply it correctly.

In this course, I will teach you everything I know about optimizing your chances of finding your first job in the industry. With my experience as a professional and the students I've been teaching, I've noticed some issues that keep reappearing over the years. Many people need to be more informed about how it works within a company and in production. They don't understand that their portfolio needs to reflect their abilities to fit a production process. And that's exactly what we're going to cover.
In this course, I'll teach you how to optimize your chance of getting your first job by making you understand what is expected and teaching you how to show the company that you know what is expected from you.
In the first week, you will receive an extensive overview of working in the video game and film industries, how everything works within the companies, and how to demonstrate that understanding. We will also establish a strategy in order to have the best odds of reaching our dream jobs, goals, and dream project to work on. This is very general but necessary to identify the company to start your career with and dive deeper into next week.
In the second week, we will talk a lot about you, your skills, how to make the most of them, and how to fill the gaps in order to reach the expected level to enter the industry.
In the third week, we will talk about your portfolio, which is your main and only tool to demonstrate that you are ready to be hired. We'll cover how to make sure it is well planned to be as pertinent and optimized as possible for the job you are aiming for.
On the fourth and last week, we will review how to make your portfolio and ensure it remains consistent. We will also talk about growing as an artist and how to handle every stage of the hiring process.
